The 678th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, South Carolina Army National Guard and the 5-7 ADA BN, hosted a prayer luncheon with the Air Defenders from the Polish 36th Air Defense Battalion, June 7, 2018 at DPTA, Poland.

Approximately 30 Soldiers from both of the allied forces, gathered fellowshipping, praying and sharing the meals they eat in the field.

Chaplain (Capt.) Yi, 5-7 ADA BN chaplain started out by saying, “Pray for our families, and to pray for our safety. This prayer lunch, is a tradition in the United states and we welcome you to share this meal with us today.”

The meal was filled with smiles as each air defense force discussed stories of family and experiences, while discussing air defense experiences from their military careers.

“We are a South Carolina National Guard Unit, subordinate to the 10th AAMDC and providing C2 to 5-7 ADA Patriot BN here in Europe,” said Col. Richard A. Wholey, 678th ADA BDE Commander in explanation of those in attendance. “We are looking forward to building readiness and operability together; and to reassure our NATO partners we are providing peace and prosperity to our nations.”

“I was surprised how much we had in common with our Polish allies, having lunch with them was incredibly fun and I laughed a great deal,” stated Sfc. Lora Glover. “Also, it was interesting and surprising that our sections; S-4, S-1, S-3 and such matched the way we handle operations. We share many things and are not that different.”

“From my commander and me, we would like to thank you for coming to our country,” added Maj. Andrzej Krasniewicz, Polish CA3 fire unit commander. “I am sure we will benefit in many ways through this exercise. We will exchange our experience and military procedures. Thank You”

The gathering continued with Maj. Mary Elizabeth Thorton, Executive Officer for the 5-7 ADA BN saying a few words.

“Thank you so much for allowing us to participate in your home of Poland and being such a great host. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership and getting together with air missile defense. This may be only an hour lunch, but is an experience to last a lifetime as we continue to share cultures and doing what we are doing here to provide peace.”

The gathering concluded with both groups gathering for a photograph and to exchange patched for units and countries.
