EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska – Col. Bryan White assumed command of the 168th Wing, Alaska Air National Guard, today during a ceremony held at the 168th Maintenance Group hangar. Brig. Gen. Karen Mansfield, commander Alaska Air National Guard was the presiding officer.
White assumed command of the 168th Wing following more than three years as commander of the 168th Operations Group and numerous active and guard component assignments during his nearly 30 year military career.
“Col. White is the epitome of a leader that has moved through the Air Force and then the Air Guard,” said Mansfield in her opening remarks at the ceremony. “I look forward to all [that] the Wing will achieve during his command.”
The 168th provides the U.S. Air Force the capabilities of global reach and vigilance through the combined operations of air refueling, missile warning and space surveillance.
White expressed his gratitude to outgoing commander Col. Torrence Saxe and his command team for their job focusing the wing’s priorities. He also stated his top three priorities moving forward: manning, mission, and morale.
“While we may be proud of our past, we put our faith in the future,” said White. “I will count on each and every one of you to share your talents and energies as we continue to make the 168th the very best it can be.”
White said the wing will continue to provide constant vigilance in air and space over North America, continue to recruit, train, prepare and deploy Alaskan citizens throughout the world, and execute the governor’s and adjutant general’s priorities of disaster response preparation, rural engagement, and federal mission assurance.
“And we’re going to have fun doing it,” said White.
