ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- The 36th Wing bid farewell to Brig. Gen. Douglas A. Cox, and welcomed Brig. Gen. Gentry W. Boswell during a change of command ceremony June 8.

Boswell assumed command of five groups and 17 squadrons, executing Indo-Pacific Command's Continuous Bomber Presence, Theater Security Packages and Contingency Response Operations. He is also tasked to ensure the successful deployment, employment and integration of air and space forces from the most forward sovereign U.S. Air Force Base (AFB) in the Indo-Pacific region.

As installation Commander, Boswell is responsible for the well-being of more than 8,500 military and civilian personnel on Andersen AFB. Additionally, he assists with installation management of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands as the Deputy Commander of Joint Region Marianas.

Lt. Gen. Ken S. Wilsbach, the 11th Air Force Commander, presided over the change of command ceremony and transferred the wing’s guidon from Cox to Boswell, symbolizing the passing of responsibility and authority.

“Under Brig. Gen. Cox’s leadership, Team Andersen has been molded into a lethal, agile, and resilient force,” Wilsbach said. “This wing has taken on missions spanning the entire pacific region, and if you’ve watched the news, you’ve seen the results. But as we say goodbye to Brig. Gen. Cox we say hafa adai to Brig. Gen. Boswell, and I could not think of a better choice to build on what Brig. Gen. Cox has done here at Andersen.”

Boswell came to the 36th Wing from Air Force Global Strike Command, where he served as the director of operations and oversaw the Air Force’s strategic deterrence, global strike, and combat support capabilities.

Upon taking command Boswell thanked Cox for his warm welcome and successful leadership, and spoke to his vision of what lay in the future for his new command.

“Command is a privilege,” Boswell said. “You can trust that my family and I are up to the task, and I look forward to the many opportunities that will beget many successes for this wing and its Airmen.”
