FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – The 169th Field Artillery Brigade, Colorado National Guard welcomed the 1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery Regiment, 55th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, 28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania National Guard to its ranks during a patching ceremony held here May 31, 2018.
A unit insignia on the left-shoulder of an Army uniform serves as an emblem to highlight a Soldier's unit, so when a Soldier changes units, naturally the patch also changes. However, when an entire unit's hierarchy is restructured, a patching ceremony occurs.
The 1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery Regiment will still remain a unit of the Pennsylvania National Guard. The unit’s administrative control falls under the 55th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Pennsylvania National Guard, while its operational control falls under the 169th Field Artillery Brigade, Colorado National Guard.
“This transition will increase combat power across the force and improve our readiness," said Lt. Col. William Start, 1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery Regiment commander.
1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery Regiment is stationed in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
