HAWALLY, Kuwait — A dozen Task Force Spartan service members participated in a Girgian celebration with the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club on June 2, as part of the of Every Soldier is an Ambassador program. The culturally rich event marks the midway point through Ramadan and focuses on children – providing them with treats, games and songs. The growing relationship between the service members and the sports club allows each group to exchange culture, support and understanding.
“The Every Soldier is an Ambassador program is a great opportunity for all Task Force Spartan soldiers to interact with people in our host nation and experience the culture,” said Sgt. 1st Class Michael Lewis, civil affairs non-commissioned officer with Task Force Spartan. “This first-hand experience teaches you things you cannot learn from a classroom.”
“In general, we typically gravitate to others of similar backgrounds and cultures. This was an excellent opportunity to mingle and learn about a different culture,” said U.S Air Force Master Sgt. Amanda Tokarz, a division weather operations non-commissioned officer with Task Force Spartan. “It was also a reminder to get to know someone first and not judge. We never know what someone else has experienced or where they are coming from. It is important to listen and learn from everyone we encounter.”
