MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif., - The Communication Training Battalion, which is responsible for the training of groundside communication maintenance and operations for entry-level Marines and advanced schooling at the Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School, conducted a change of command at the Thunderdome aboard the Combat Center on June 13, 2018.
Lt. Col. Barian Woodward relinquished command to Lt. Col Russell Savatt in a ceremony that symbolized the tradition of ensuring that the unit and its Marines are never without official leadership, and also signifies an allegiance of Marines to their unit’s commander.
“It has been a great pleasure to serve here with Communication Training Battalion,” Woodward said. “It’s been such a humbling experience to be able to provide world-class training for our Marines.”
Woodward will be reporting to the U.S. Institute of Peace, a federal, non-partisan think-tank in Washington D.C. that promotes international peace and cooperation among nations.
“I truly have some big shoes to fill,” Savatt said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to lead and instruct our entry-level Marines and those who have returned for advanced training.”
