RAF MILDENHALL, England – RAF Mildenhall Airmen tested their emergency response and self-aid buddy care capabilities June 19 - 20 during an exercise on base.

The two-day exercise tested Airmen using different simulated scenarios, such as protesters, a base access breach and a vehicle incident with injuries.

“The purpose of these exercises are to test the overall response of the base,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Joseph Brzozwske, 100th Air Refueling Wing Inspector General chief. “We need to test the base’s readiness in the most realistic scenarios possible. It will ultimately prepare us better for real-world situations.”

These basewide exercises are conducted approximately every month using different emergency situations to evaluate Airmen readiness.

Simulated casualties were moulaged to provide extra realism to the scenario, giving a variety of severe and bloody injuries. Airmen then had to respond and provide care until first responders arrived on scene.

The Tennessee Air National Guard’s 134th Air Refueling Wing, at RAF Mildenhall for annual training, provided support for the exercise.

“We’d like to thank the 134th ARW for their participation. Between the IG and PA support, as well as their volunteers with the simulated scenario, they played a pivotal role in the overall success of the exercise,” Brzozwske said.

The Total Force team of inspectors identified weaknesses in the 100th ARW’s response to the scenarios. The observations will be discussed and improved upon to improve the wing’s overall readiness.
