Commander, Submarine Group Ten held a change-of-command ceremony at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, June 22.
Rear Adm. Michael Holland was relieved by Rear Adm. Jeffrey Jablon as the Submarine Group Ten commander.
Vice Adm. Joseph Tofalo, Commander, Submarine Forces, was the guest speaker for the ceremony and commended Holland and his team for their outstanding performance.
“Under your leadership, this team has been responsible for eight of the most capable and powerful naval platforms the world has ever known, and more importantly, 15 crews of outstanding SSBN and SSGN submarine warriors,” Tofalo said. “The collective Kings Bay team deployed one fully ready SSBN or SSGN crew approximately every three weeks. This is an amazing accomplishment, and one that cannot be taken for granted.”
Holland, a native of Great Falls, Montana, was awarded the Legion of Merit during the ceremony and credited the personnel at Kings Bay and the local community for his successful tour as Group Ten’s commander.
“The support from the community is awesome and I believe we are unique in Kings Bay because we operate in all five pillars of the Navy League’s platform. To me that is the hallmark of the incredible community support we get here,” Holland said. “The city, county and state have been great here. [My wife and I] now understand why everyone brags about this place so much.”
Holland went on to laud the efforts of Team Kings Bay. “To be honest, because of the people who make up the commands here, most days I probably didn't need to come to work,” Holland said. “They get it done and get it done well… through hurricanes, foreign visitors, and material challenges.”
Holland will report to the Pentagon, taking his position as Director of Programming (N80) in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.
Jablon, a native of Frostburg, Maryland previously served as the Deputy Director for Plans and Policy (J5) on the staff of Commander, U.S. Strategic Command. He becomes the 18th commander of Submarine Group Ten, which exercises administrative control over Submarine Squadrons 16 and 20 and their assigned ballistic and guided-cruise missile submarines.
“The mission of Submarine Group 10, to ensure our submarine crews are properly manned, trained and mission ready, is vital to our nation and I am incredibly excited to take command and start working with this tremendous Kings Bay team,” Jablon said.
Commander, Submarine Group 10 is located at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga., and is the Nation's pre-eminent provider of sea-based strategic deterrence, strike and unique Ohio-class guided-missile submarine special operations capabilities.
