The 154th Training Squadron provides academic training for U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps, and international C-130H flight engineers and loadmasters, averaging 900 students per year. Loadmaster students must complete 80 academic training days at the Air National Guard Enlisted Aircrew Academic School for their initial qualification. Currently, the 154th TRS has more than 20 loadmaster instructors who provide training to students for their initial qualification. Upon completion of their training at the 154th TRS, students either transition to another location for additional follow-on training or return to their home units for indoctrination training.
Loadmasters are responsible for cargo and passenger placement inside the back of cargo airplanes and are the technical experts for cargo loading operations. Part of their job is ensuring that cargo does not exceed aircraft limits, as well as making sure that cargo is properly positioned and stabilized. Additionally, loadmasters ensure passengers understand aircraft safety procedures and are responsible for communicating any issues that may arise in the cargo hold with the rest of the flight crew.
