BAGHDAD – Today's Soldier in Focus is 1st Sgt. Mary Tyler, the senior enlisted leader of the 589th Signal Company, 40th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad.
Tyler, a native of Belzoni, Miss., has served as a Soldier for more than 19 years and is currently serving on her third deployment to Iraq. She will have a total of two years as the first sergeant of the 589th Sig. Co. in June.
She said she was well prepared to serve as a first sergeant, having previously served as the communication security senior NCO for the 101st Airborne Division.
"This deployment has been different from my previous two with the Screaming Eagles," said Tyler, "but I've had a great experience working in the Iron Brigade."
She said she likes what she is doing now and appreciates what the position allows her to do.
"I have the most rewarding job out of anyone," said Tyler. "I'm here to take care of Soldiers every day."
