    Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime

    Columbus, Ohio – The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime awarded nearly $78.5 million to Ohio small businesses in the first half of this fiscal year ending March 31st. This number includes more than $29.5 million in award dollars to small businesses in the Columbus region.

    The majority of dollars were awarded to small businesses in the manufacturing sector, with the following areas receiving the most award dollars:

    • General Purpose Machinery Manufacturing
    • Motor Vehicle Transmission and Power Train Parts Manufacturing
    • Fluid Power Pump and Motor Manufacturing
    • Industrial Valve Manufacturing

    The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Small Business Office located at the Defense Supply Center Columbus promotes small business and socio-economic programs while working closely with the acquisition community as they seek suppliers to fulfill DLA’s mission of Warfighter logistics support. The office provides several programs to support small businesses, including the Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business Program, Historically Underutilized Business HubZone Program, Woman Owned Small Business Program and the Small Business Administration’s 8a Program.

    In FY17, the DLA Land and Maritime Small Business Office awarded more than $130 million to Ohio small businesses.

    More than 99 percent of businesses in Ohio are small businesses and employ 46 percent of the state’s workforce, according to the state profile released by the Small Business Administration’s Columbus District Office.

    • Vendor Outreach at symposiums, fairs, and conferences across the country
    DLA Land and Maritime Small Business representatives will participate in the Toledo Small Business Manufacturers Outreach Event July 10 at the University of Toledo.

    The DLA Land and Maritime Small Business Office also offers training to Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTACs) specialists. PTACs are located in nearly every state and are funded by DLA and local governments to help vendors market their products and services to local, state and federal governments. PTACs and Small Business Offices both provide tools to help small businesses be more successful in government contracting.
