CAMP REDLEG, United Arab Emirates – The 65th Field Artillery Brigade, “America’s Thunder,” made an improvement to Camp Redleg through a service project held June 21, 2018.
The service project entailed repairing and painting a fence that encloses the camp’s volleyball court, which Soldiers use in their recreational time. The project was one of many planned ongoing efforts by America’s Thunder to improve Camp Redleg.
“We are starting with small projects … volleyball fences, benches, chairs and tables,” said Capt. Trevor Reddish, a battery commander for the 65th FA BDE.
Improvements to Camp Redleg are a priority for Reddish as he works aggressively within the brigade’s commander’s intent to execute service projects as part of the overall vision for the camp.
“I see this service project as [the] start of Soldiers being able to see what Camp Redleg can be,” remarked Reddish. “It will instill pride within the camp and give Soldiers the drive to see where else we can work.”
Nearly 60 man-hours went into repairing and painting the fence. Sgt. Jessie Ramirez, a supply non-commissioned officer, was one of 30 volunteers working on the fence. Ramirez and the other volunteers assisted with the project by painting with paint-rollers and brushes and used Styrofoam cups as containers for red and yellow paint.
“It brings sections together for a good cause. It helps create good relationships and pride in what we do,” said Ramirez.
This service project helps show the pride the Soldiers of the 65th FA BDE have in being the force field artillery headquarters for Task Force Spartan and in supporting Operation Spartan Shield. Soldiers will use this pride to continue to make the camp a better place.
“Anytime you make something better, everyone benefits,” said Reddish. “It’s an opportunity to get the battery together [and] it inspires others to see what they can do.”
