Brig. Gen. Robert S. Cooley, commanding general of the 353rd Civil Affairs Command, speaks about ethical leadership at Carnegie Council in New York City, Tuesday, July 10, 2018. The purpose of the talk was to enrich the next generation of future leaders.
Two major points of discussion with the future leaders were the multi-directional accountability and the high stakes of getting it right in today’s complex environment.
"Ethics, virtue and morality remain the cornerstone of great leadership in today's complex world. We leaders must apply the age old paradigms of what is ‘right and wrong’ through today's lens, but the fundamentals do not change,” said Cooley.
Cooley spoke about the importance of accountability and trust with both external and internal stakeholders. “If we lose the sacred trust of those we lead and represent, then we have nothing," said Cooley.
