CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Brig. Gen. Nikki L. Griffin Olive assumed command of the 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional) from Brig. Gen. John H. Phillips at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, July 19.

Griffin Olive has served over 28 years as an Army Signal Corps officer, and her immediate prior assignment was Deputy Commander for Sustainment of the 335th Signal Command (Theater), East Point, Georgia.

The 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional) is headquartered in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, and provides communication services to coalition and joint forces located at over 30 sites in 11 Southwest Asia countries. It is comprised of over 2,000 Soldiers, civilians and contractors. Its headquarters consists of more than 80 percent Army Reserve Soldiers who serve 12-month assignments. Designated as a provisional command in 2005, it is under the operational control of U. S. Army Central Command. The unit’s primary effort is the planning, engineering, installation, maintenance, and defense of the Army’s portion of the DoD Information Network in the Southwest Asia region.

In his closing remarks, Phillips shared with partner organizations all the successes achieved during his 13-month tour.

“[During my command] I had one maxim: no organization should take credit, but the entire team must contribute,” Phillips said. “And contribute they did—from the [G-]6 (chief information officer) shops in 1st Theater Sustainment Command, 143rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, 28th Infantry Division, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve to the 335th and Regional Cyber Center-Southwest Asia—they formed Team Orange with that goal in mind—ensure mission command for all.”

Phillips will next serve as G-6 (chief information officer) with U.S. Army Europe, Wiesbaden, Germany.

Griffin Olive, during her remarks, charged those under her command to continue to pursue excellence.

“What I ask of you simply is – never give less than your very best,” Griffin Olive said. “Never put off for tomorrow that which can be done today. And never forget that the work you do enables our warriors to communicate and win on the battlefield.”
