BAGHDAD – On Nov. 19, 2008, in Baghdad, Iraq, U.S. Army Spc. Michael D. Brandt of Hale, Michigan reenlisted in the Army for an additional five years. He made this decision while separated from his wife and two kids and serving his country in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Brandt, son of David and Cathy Brandt, enlisted in the Army in January 2006 and this is his first deployment.
"Being here in Iraq, and the fact that this is my first deployment, has made this reenlistment so special for me," remarked Spc. Brandt.
Spc. Brandt was able to reenlist in front of an AH-64D Apache Longbow Attack Helicopter. After the reenlistment, the crew and pilot of the aircraft gave Spc. Brandt an in-depth introduction on how the helicopter operates.
Spc. Brandt is currently serving as a construction equipment repair technician in the 54th Engineer Battalion's Forward Support Company. He is stationed in Bamberg Germany and is currently working toward a goal of becoming an Aviation Warrant Officer.
