VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Intelligence Specialist (IS) 1st Class Anthony Bond, a native of Waynesboro, Mississippi, currently serves as an instructor at Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Virginia Beach.
He enlisted in the Navy in July 2006, and following his completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to his first duty station aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) as an undesignated seaman. Upon completing two deployments, he became an IS. He is also qualified as both an enlisted information warfare specialist and enlisted aviation warfare specialist.
Bond’s assignments include U.S. Fleet Forces Command, where he served as a Maritime Intelligence Operations Center (MIOC) watch stander, and Patrol Squadron 10 (VP 10), where he served as an intelligence analyst forward deployed to Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Fleets.
In his current position, he trains and prepares Sailors throughout the information warfare community for the Navy the nation needs.
“I wake up every day excited and invigorated knowing that I’m lucky enough to have a hand in molding the future of the intelligence community,” said Bond. “Every instructor is more than just an instructor. We are mentors who set the bar guiding Sailors in both professional and personal growth, helping these young Sailors begin their exciting careers in the United States Navy.”
Bond has provided 103 hours of top-notch instruction to 114 IS “A” school students across three separate classes. Students often commend his ability to effectively fuse fleet experience and expectations with the course curriculum, and his passion for teaching is evident to all. He selflessly devoted 40 off-duty hours to weekend remediation training to more than 70 students, resulting in an 87 percent retest pass rate. Bond chaired three Blue Jacket of the Month selection boards and three battalion leader interviews, recognizing students for excellent behavior, academics, and military bearing.
Additionally, he meticulously coordinated one volunteer event for 53 personnel, positively enhancing the perception of the Navy and its personnel within the community. Bond is an integral part of the success of IWTC Virginia Beach's mission to provide trained and ready intelligence forces to support the full spectrum of military operations.
IWTC Virginia Beach currently offers 65 courses of instruction in information technology, cryptology, and intelligence with an instructor and support staff of 280 military, civilian, and contract members who train over 6,400 students every year at five training sites in the Hampton Roads area. It is one of four school houses for Center for Information Warfare Training and also oversees learning sites at Jacksonville and Mayport, Florida; Kings Bay, Georgia; and Groton, Connecticut to continue aligning IW community training.
