Nebraska U.S. Senator Deb Fischer along with retired Maj. Gen. Roger Lempke, visited the Omaha VA Medical Center, July 28, receiving the latest updates about the Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System.
During her brief visit, Sen. Fischer was informed about the ongoing construction of the Ambulatory Care Clinic, which according to Billy Marvel, construction facilities manager, is “on time for completion in 2020.” “Even with the rainy weather from a few weeks ago, we are on target,” Marvel said.
NWIHCS Chief Engineer Robert Volz include in his update to her the $14.5 million worth of projects in the works right now around NWIHCS.
Director of NWIHCS, Don Burman, noted that even with all the constructions planned and continuing around our system, a promise made to the Veterans is a promise he intends to keep. Burman told her of the increase in transportation services that will be coming to the clinics so that Veterans may continue to make their appointments without having to worry about driving themselves or worry about traffic and any other delays they may to encounter.
Supervisor of Biomedical Equipment Support at the NWIHCS, Jim Mazurek, had the interactive part of the presentation, whereby he showed Sen. Fischer operating Tugs around the facility. Mazurek explained and showed her how they are able to operate independently with the right programming, delivering and receiving items within the confines of the medical center.
