MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – “This is one of the hardest awards to win,” said Col. Scott Baldwin, assistant chief of staff for G-4 for Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. “The inspection team arrives unnoticed, so for the mess halls to always be ready for that is great.”
On the behalf of Brig. Gen. Julian D. Alford, commanding general, Marine Corps Installations East, Baldwin presented two of MCB Camp Lejeune’s mess halls, WC100 and RR135, Certificates of Commendation, July 26, for preforming at top-level during the Jan. though July 2018 Semi-Annual Technical Inspections.
“I’m happy to be here giving all of you this award for providing quality service to the Marines and Sailors stationed here on Camp Lejeune,” said Baldwin. “As Marines, chow is everything. It is the fuel that makes us go and what all of you do is important.”
Sanitation, service, preparation and accounting are a majority of the departments that are reviewed during the inspections.
“It is always great to walk into a mess hall and see a group of people who enjoy what they are doing,” said Baldwin. “It really makes a big difference that all of you work together as a team.”
The praise from Baldwin during the presentation for both mess hall’s stemmed from the pride the Marines and civilians have in providing for the service members on the installation.
“For everyone to always come into work with a smile on their face really makes a difference,” said Kim Moore, general manager of mess hall RR135. “The changes we have to make are ongoing, so it really feels great to be recognized.”
