COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston, Jr., the Adjutant General for South Carolina, was presented the “Army Communities of Excellence Award (ACOE), Silver, 2018” by the Strategic Plans and Programs Directorate at The Adjutant General’s building on July 25, 2018.

All 2018 ACOE winners were recognized at a formal ceremony at the Pentagon in May by U.S. Gen. James McConville, the Vice Chief of Staff for the Army, who presented the trophies to agency representatives.

The ACOE award honors the top Army, National Guard, and Reserve installations that have achieved high levels of excellence in building a quality environment, outstanding facilities and superior services. The guide to achieving exceptional customer service and satisfaction is formulated through continuous process improvement methods.

During a year long process, ACOE applicants are assessed and evaluated against Army priorities and Malcolm Baldridge Criteria for Performance Excellence. Army, National Guard and Reserve review boards perform an assessment of the applicant qualifications where Department of the Army Officers and Civilian examiners review and scores applications. Winners receive professional recognition and monetary awards to invest in improving their respective installations.

“This award demonstrates the dedication and integrity of all of our service members who strive for excellence, think innovatively and look for opportunities to improve processes every day in support of our Soldiers, Families and civilians,” said Livingston.

The award is sponsored by the Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA) and overseen by the Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management (ACSIM).

"Our installations are extremely important because the Army's people are our most important asset, our most important weapons system," said McConville. "The winning installations have succeeded in creating a true sense of community for our military families."
