FORT IRWIN, Calif. – Approximately 200 soldiers from the 252nd Quartermaster Company, 728th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania National Guard are assigned to support and sustain the 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team training rotation at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, Ca.

The 252nd’s essential operations at NTC include sanitation, recycling, transportation, laundry, fuel and ammunition supply to support the readiness of the 56th SBCT. Soldiers at NTC train in a simulated battlefield to evaluate deployment readiness.

“We are here to make sure the Soldiers are comfortable and can accomplish the mission,” said Sgt. Donald Johnson, an automated logistical specialist and section leader at the 252nd. “Our jobs ensure sanitation, cleanliness and efficiency of facilities to encourage Soldier morale and mission focus.”

The company runs 24-hour operations composed of teams lead by section leaders who supervise 10 to 25 Soldiers. Soldiers from various units within the 213th RSG were assigned to the 252nd to support its mission.

“My Soldiers work extremely hard and are very motivated,” said Staff Sgt. Tiffany Mondragon, an automated logistical specialist and team leader at the 252nd. “Some work 12-hour shifts to remove trash throughout the night, clean bathrooms, fuel generators and check on animal points.”

The company manages animal checkpoints near the trash sites to prevent wildlife and coyotes from pillaging food and spreading disease.

Transportation services bring Soldiers from the airport to NTC for in-processing and collaborates with the Red Cross on base.

Fuel missions include supply for military vehicles, generators and air-conditioners on base.

Sanitation, transport and fuel supply are pivotal tasks that ensure the safety and quality of life for approximately 4,900 Soldiers who train at NTC.

“At the end of the day, all you want is a comfortable place to sleep, a warm shower, a safe place to eat and a clean environment so you can complete the mission. I am proud to say that my company provides that,” said Staff Sgt. Amber Carter, an automated logistical specialist and team leader at the 252nd.

The 252nd’s mission is to provide transportation, laundry, sanitation, recycling, ammunition and fuel supply services to the unit they are tasked with supporting, whether in training, on state active duty, or deployed overseas.
