PINEVILLE, La. – Command Sgt. Maj. Frank R. Huff, of Pineville, La., marked the end of his career in the Louisiana National Guard recently at a ceremony at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, La.
During his 26-year career, Huff served as a mechanic, plumber and carpentry/masonry specialist, and retired as the command sergeant major of the 527th Engineer Battalion in Ruston, La., and senior enlisted advisor to the Joint Director of Operations for the Louisiana National Guard.
"It has been my honor to serve as the command sergeant major of the finest engineer battalion in the entire world," Huff stressed. "Like most of you, I enlisted as a private and have worked hard, which is required of all engineers. I cannot express the gratitude I have for your support during my time in this wonderful organization."
At the ceremony, Huff received various awards and gifts from the battalion, including the Minuteman Award, the Federal Legion of Merit medal, the De Fleuris Medal and a Heritage print depicting a helicopter rescue during Hurricane Katrina.
"The Soldiers of the 527th are better because of Frank Huff," said 527th Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Daniel P. Bordelon of New Orleans. "His temperament, knowledge and ability made the 527th a better battalion."
Huff deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003. He is now employed as the program support specialist and data contractor for IIF Data Solutions and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, in Louisiana.
