KIHEI, Hawaii - It's opening day at Saint Theresa's Church in Kihei, HI. No cost medical care is available at multiple locations across Maui County as Tropic Care Maui County 2018 kicks off.

Tropic Care Maui County 2018 is a joint-service Innovative Readiness Training mission led by the Air National Guard and supported by members of the Air Force, Army, Navy Reserve, and Marine Corps Reserve. Health clinics at Central Maui, Kihei, Lahaina, Hana, Molokai, and Lanai will run from August 11-19, providing medical, dental, and vision services at no cost. Tropic Care Maui County 2018 provides medical troops and support personnel "hands-on" readiness training to prepare for future deployments while providing direct and lasting benefits to the people of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai.

The Kihei clinic opened for business at 8 a.m. and already had people lining up for their no cost services.

U.S. Navy Reserve Cmdr. Matthew Chesler is the officer in charge of the 4th Dental Battalion, 4th Dental Company Detachment Headquarters and serves as the assistant officer in charge of the Kihei site making sure that all of the operations run smooth.

"It's been really awesome. I had a little bit of trepidation on what it was going to look like, but we have a good crowd and it has been really well managed from the get go. There are some challenges and natural bottle necks that this particular campus offers but I think we are meeting those challenges and exceeding expectations. The people seem very excited. There are a lot of "thank yous" and gratitude and there are some veterans out in the crowd. So far everyone has been really happy with the services. It's the full happy meal, they are getting a little bit of everything and we hope to see people come back every single day. They can only receive one service per day but we really hope that we get repeat customers that come back every day that we are here." Chesler said.

All of the sites at Kihei, Lahaina, Hana, Molokai, and Lanai will be open from August 11-19, providing medical, dental, vision and chaplain services at no cost. Even though it is limited to one service per person per day the site staff and command encourage people to come back every day to receive no cost services.
