DESTREHAN, La. – The Louisiana Army National Guard and MaxPreps' Tour of Champions honored the Destrehan High School football team for their outstanding season during a jam-packed pep rally in Destrehan, La., Jan. 9.
"This is a great way for the National Guard to give back," said Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey R. Nelson of Metairie, La., recruiting and retention non-commissioned officer. "I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to celebrate Destrehan's remarkable sports achievements."
The Fighting Wildcats received the MaxPreps' Tour of Champions National Ranking Trophy and t-shirts for their undefeated season. The team was also awarded the State Farm Superdome Prep Classic, the Louisiana 5A State Championship and a trophy presented by Smoothie King.
"To have the National Guard present and to be honored by them is just special," said Coach Stephen D. Robicheaux of Destrehan, La. "We are a hard working, disciplined team which is key in the National Guard and I would like to build on our program from that."
