WIESBADEN, Germany – Your Microsoft Windows 10 Operating System is about to get more secure.
Beginning Aug. 20, all networked computers within the European and African theaters will receive an automatic mandatory software upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update v1709).
“The update will enhance the defensive posture of the network in order to counter adversary activities by enabling all security features available with our current Windows 10 Operating System,” said Dan Finley, director of the Army Enterprise Service Desk – Europe & Africa (119).
No action is required from users – the update will be installed remotely by 119 at a rate of 1,000 computers per night and is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 1.
Users can request the update themselves through the software center on their computers, but it will require 3.5 hours and several restarts to fully install. Users are advised to first read the full installation instructions on the 119 portal before choosing this option.
The upgrade has been thoroughly tested by Microsoft, the Department of Defense, U.S. Army Cyber Command, U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command, and the 2d Theater Signal Brigade with tenant units throughout the theater. In the unlikely event that the upgrade causes a disruption to your computer please call DSN 119 so the problem can be quickly addressed.
