MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Marines and Sailors of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune were visited by Rear Adm. Gregory Todd, the current Chaplain of the Marine Corps, Deputy Chief of Chaplains, Deputy Director of Religious Ministries, Aug. 9.
Todd assumed his current duties as the 20th Chaplain of the Marine Corps June 2018.
“The first priority I have for our community as I take this new role is an emphasis on combat readiness,” said Todd. “Combat is the whole reason for why we are here and it could happen tonight.”
With the constant threat of foreign conflicts always on the minds of service members, the Chaplains Corps reinforces the promise of producing supportive chaplains.
Todd’s second priority is making sure the Navy is going in the right direction in terms of leadership.
“We need to get people ready for the next step of where they need to be,” said Todd. “This is not about promotions, we need leadership, we need leaders to show Marines and Sailors the right way of getting things done.”
The chaplains and religious program specialists enjoyed the visit from Todd.
“It was great to hear from the Headquarters Marine Corps level that this isn’t just a Chaplain Corps, but a Marine Corps Navy Chaplain Corps,” said Navy Capt. J.P. Hedges, Command Chaplain of Marine Corps Installation East and MCB Camp Lejeune.
The final message Todd left with the service members is to care about what you are doing on a day-to-day basis.
“We need people that say ‘I want to take care of my Marines, I want to take care of my sailors’,” said Todd. “’I want to do this out of a passion for them.’”
