    Story by Spc. Arielle Lugtu

    358th Public Affairs Detachment

Family day is a way to increase the morale of soldiers in the field by connecting their civilian lives to their personal lives.
Kimberly Breaman, wife of Cpl. Terry Breaman, assigned to the 125th FA, said that this was an important day to see what her husband does.

"It gives us a better understanding of what they go through," said Kimberly. "I think it's more important for my children to see, that way they understand what's going on."

Families sat down to eat meals provided by the battalion and explore the
M109A6 Paladin, the big guns that artillery uses. During the exploration, they entered the vehicles with Soldiers and saw first hand the environment they undergo when in the field.

Cpt. Maria Jirik assigned to the 125th FA, said that the relationship between families and Soldiers coming together on this day brought out the joy in her job working with the 125th FA.

"It really brings that camaraderie," says Jirik, "At the end of the day they know why we're doing it and they're here to support us. I feel extremely rewarded. "

The 125th FA conducted their last family day in 2010 before their deployment to Kuwait. This Family Day hosted 285 members of families among 511 Soldiers.

Families come to support their significant other to see their jobs and what they go through as Soldiers. They explore theĀ M109A6 Paladin, the big guns that artillery uses, and even watch a battalion fire mission performed by the soldiers.

Cpt. Maria Jirik of the 125th FA says that this is a great way to showcase their lives to their families so they can bridge the gap between both worlds.

"This opportunity that we have is to really show our family and friends what we do in field artillery," says Cpt. Maria Jirik, "It gives them time for our soldiers and families to really connect outside of the civilian world."
