FORT MCCOY, WI (August 12, 2018) -
It's day 20 in the field, and you finally get enough cell service to receive a text from home. Of course one of the things mom is worried about is the last time you showered. But that's ok, because units like the 137th Quarter Master Company have your back.
The 137th QM Co. specializes in shower and laundry facilities for a field environment. Personal hygiene is a key part of effective warfighting because it minimizes the risk of getting sick. As part of their annual training, Army Reserve Soldiers in the 137th participate in the Combat Support Training Exercise, where they provide both shower and laundry capabilities to other units training in the same area.
The Laundry Advanced Digital System is a truck that has two laundry machine units attached.
"Our LADS can handle up to 400 lbs. of laundry each, and can both wash and dry," said Staff Sgt. Robert Ceja, the laundry noncommissioned officer in charge.
Soldiers in the field also have the opportunity to take a hot shower.
"We limit our Soldiers to seven minute showers in our tents to conserve water." said 1st Lt. Jeavin Yu, 137th QM Co. acting executive officer.
Aside from their military occupational specialties, they're also engaging in basic warrior tasks and skills. From providing area security to running convoy operations, it's important for Army Reserve Soldiers to sharpen these skills to maintain a lethal and combat ready force.
"We're setting this area up from scratch. That's why we have Soldiers pulling perimeter security and have our vehicles tactically parked," said Yu.
The tactical training at CSTX prepares more than 6,500 Soldiers from across the nation.
