The Malmstrom Elkhorn Dining Facility took its first swing for its construction plan February 2018 and has opened its doors for business.

The dining facility was closed for renovations under the Food 2.0 Food Transformation Initiative.

“The intent behind Food 2.0 is to give our Airmen more options that are healthier, which reinforces our 'Fit to Fight' motto," said Maj. Samantha Miller, 341st Force Support Squadron commander.

This initiative is a program specifically designed to provide members with healthier food options by improving serving systems and has already taken place at other military bases.

Airmen living in the dorms will be exchanging their basic allowance for subsistence, or BAS, for a meal card.

“The meal card allows Airmen to eat at other FSS activities around the base in addition to the dining facility,” said Miller.

The newly-remodeled dining facility is complete with campus-style dining, upgraded serving lines and additional, healthier food choices.

Anyone with base access will be able to eat in the dining facility.

“The new dining facility also has an event room, which needs a designated name,” said 2nd Lt. Alison Altosino, 341st FSS services officer. “Until the name is chosen, the dining facility will be accepting suggestions for this room.”
