703rd BSB Maintain Proficiency
Soldiers assigned to 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, successfully qualified vehicle crews during Gunnery Table IV training, August 23, at Fort Stewart, Ga.
This brigade-level certification involves M2 .50 caliber and M249 Squad Automatic Weapon machine guns as 703rd BSB continues converting their support structure from a light to armored brigade. Gunnery Table IV increases 703rd BSB's lethality by familiarizing newer Soldiers with tactical skills while firing weapons mounted on different up-armored Humvees. Soldiers enhance their skillset prior to, by taking a Vehicle Crew Evaluator course. VCE is a virtual driving and firing simulator allowing Soldiers to train in a similar environment to that of the final test.
“The purpose of this training event is for Soldiers to qualify on each weapon while communicating through radios,” said Pfc. Leayle King, a motor transport operator assigned to Alpha Company, 703rd BSB.
Mission objectives during Gunnery Table IV emphasize an individual’s or larger element’s ability to shoot, move and communicate. During Gunnery Table IV, tower operators alert truck commanders on target locations and distances while truck commanders direct gunners and drivers on sector scanning, target acquisition and tactical movements.
“Being the gunner on a gun crew allows me to be familiar with my weapon system, and get the feel for firing on top of a Humvee,” said Spc. Eric Manibusan, a motor transport operator for Alpha Company, 703rd BSB. “We need qualified gun crews when deploying down range.”
Gunnery Table IV is a semiannual training requirement for 703rd BSB.
