PLAQUEMINE, La. – Louisiana Army National Guard Soldier Stuart N. Burruss of Carville, La., was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel by the 256th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, Jan. 9.
Burruss has served in the LANG for 20 years and is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his service in the Guard, he has received various state and federal awards, including the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the Louisiana War Cross.
Col. Jonathon T. Ball, commander of the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, presided over the ceremony, which took place at the 256th headquarters in Plaquemine, La.
"It is always a pleasure to see any Soldier in my command move up in rank. Burruss is an outstanding officer and Soldier and will continue to provide superb leadership for the 256th," said Ball, a Pineville, La., resident.
Burruss, a graduate of Lumberton High School in Lumberton, Texas, Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La., and the American Military University, is a full-time Guardsman and is assigned as the administrative officer and commander of the 256th BSTB.
He and his wife Aimee have three children, Alexis, Caleb and Connor.
The 256th has units in Plaquemine, La., Lafayette, La., and New Roads., La.
