Naval Medical Center Portsmouth recognized ten master clinicians and ten associate master clinicians in a ceremony held in the medical center’s auditorium, Aug. 28.
The master clinician program was first began at NMCP in 2014, and it was designed to acknowledge providers who represent the best of the best clinicians in patient care and participation in graduate education, research and professionalism.
Presiding over the ceremony was Capt. Carolyn Rice, NMCP’s acting commanding officer. “With all the requirements that are entailed in being selected for this honor, it really validates the level of experience and clinical excellence that these providers have,” Rice said. “This is an honor that clinicians are selected by other master clinicians so patients can be reassured that these providers are the best at what they do.”
Honorees selected as master clinicians possessed a minimum of eight years of experience specializing in their field after completing their residency, and they will wear a gold pin designating their selection as a master clinician.
Those selected as an associate master clinician possessed a minimum of four years of experience post residency and will dawn a silver pin. The honorees included civil service and active duty personnel representing the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.
“It’s a very humbling experience because it’s really a representation of hard work from everyone,” said Uyen Le-Jenkins, a pediatric nurse practitioner and new master clinician.
Le-Jenkins credited the high performance of NMCP clinicians to accessibility of resources - specifically found in the military medicine network culture.
“We have these fantastic specialty leaders that are just a phone call away that help us overcome barriers and provide us with assistance so we can really manage and give our patients the best care,” Le-Jenkins said. “It’s really tough to match that type of accessibility anywhere else.”
