MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Among 49 restaurant and hospitality activities across 14 installations, two Marine Corps Community Services Lejeune-New River facilities have been recognized as “Best in Class” by the Business and Support Services Division (MR), Headquarters Marine Corps--The Landing at New River and Inns of the Corps Lejeune.
Col. Russell C. Burton, commanding officer, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River presented The Landing at New River the 2017 award for Marine Corps Club of the Year, Aug. 30 at the all ranks club on MCAS New River.
“The Landing at New River is a true success story,” said Paul Williamson, Food & Beverage program specialist, Business and Support Services Division, HQMC. “The focus of leadership on best business practices such as instituting all hands limited service lunch dining, along with best-in-class service execution by the staff has resonated with the patrons that this club serves. These changes in the model helped bring food costs in-line and reduced labor all while increasing the customer traffic and interest in the club. ”
Col. Michael J. Scalise, deputy commander, Marine Corps Installations East-Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, presented the 2017 Marine Corps Lodging Facility of the Year to the staff of Inns of the Corps Lejeune, on Aug. 31.
“Inns of the Corps Lejeune has been a brand leader within the system since the establishment of the Inns of the Corps brand,” said Michael Barber, Lodging program specialist, Business and Support Services Division for MCCS. “Kristy Johnson, temporary lodging facility (TLF) manager on MCB Camp Lejeune, and her team embody the Inns of the Corps’ ‘Clean.Crisp.Comfort®’ philosophy.”
According to Barber, the Inns of the Corps Lejeune was the leader in many of the customer service, cleanliness and facility categories in the Inns of the Corps Guest Service Survey results for 2017.
“In addition to the brand required customer service training, the TLF became the first Inns of the Corps to earn the Guest Service Gold® property certification from American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute,” said Barber. “To earn this distinguished recognition, all of the guest service contact employees earned their Guest Service Professional certification.”
MCCS Lejeune - New River received other accolades, including honorable mentions to Onslow Beach Resort for Facility of the Year and Heroz Restaurant Ball Center for Food and Beverage Activity of the Year. Additionally, both the SNCO Club and Paradise Point Officers’ Club at Camp Lejeune were recognized as recipients of the MCCS Food & Hospitality Excellence Awards.
“These awards speak to the superior customer service that the MCCS staff at Camp Lejeune and New River provide to Marines, Sailors and families,” Sarah Wiltgen, assistant chief of staff, MCCS Lejeune-New River, Marine Corps Installations East. “Every day they recognize who they serve, and in a stiff competition against all of the installations in the Marine Corps, these team members and their facilities rose to the top.”
“I think it’s because of their passion and dedication in understanding our mission,” said Wiltgen.
