FORT HUACHUCA – The Army & Air Force Exchange Service unveiled its first major upgrade at Fort Huachuca in more than 30 years with the grand reopening of the Exchange’s shopping center.

Maj. Gen. Robert Walters Jr., Commanding General of U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca; Exchange Western Region Senior Vice President Shelly Armstrong; Exchange West Coast Regional Vice President Robert Rice; and Fort Huachuca Exchange General Manager Jeff Hyatt cut the ribbon on the renovated 73,000-square-foot shopping center during a grand reopening celebration Sept. 6.

The approximately $8 million face-lift creates a more modern and convenient retail experience for military shoppers. The updated Exchange includes an additional 6,000 square feet of space to accommodate the garden center and furniture, creating a one-stop shop for Soldiers, families and retirees. The Exchange—not American taxpayers—pays for renovations such as this from earnings.

“The Exchange is a terrific partner to Fort Huachuca,” Walters said. “The entire community is excited about this update. It’s an honor to celebrate this with all of you.”

The Exchange’s new BE FIT center, inside the main store, is a highlight of the upgrade and has the look and feel of a sporting goods store featuring name brands such as Nike, Under Armour and Adidas. The expanded athletic apparel and footwear assortment all in one place promotes readiness and resiliency.

The renovated Exchange highlights name brands shoppers know and trust, including Michael Kors, Columbia, The North Face, Apple, Samsung and Bose.

Additional shopping center upgrades include an expanded food court and larger GNC store in the mall, polished concrete flooring throughout the shopping center, along with fresh paint, contemporary fixtures and an updated façade.

“It’s our privilege to take care of Fort Huachuca,” Hyatt said.

100 percent of Exchange earnings support the military community. Last year, shopping the Exchange generated nearly $330,000 for military Quality-of-Life programs at Fort Huachuca.
