Retired Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) James Herdt, the 9th MCPON, visited Nashville to speak with the Sailors of Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Nashville and Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Nashville Sept. 10, 2018.
Herdt spoke with the Sailors on a number of topics. As the CEO of his own company , Herdt offered advice for success in business and civilian careers. He addressed the importance and evolution of education for enlisted Sailors. Herdt also spoke on the issues of leadership, stress management and Navy history from 1963 to present.
“The Navy we have always had is the Navy we have always needed, and you are the Sailors the Navy needs now,” Herdt explained after being asked about the changes he’s seen in the Navy over time.
After meeting with junior Sailors at the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Capt. Jeff Kuss memorial in Smyrna, Tennessee., Herdt met with senior leadership including, chiefs and this year’s chief selects who will be promoted Sept. 14. NTAG Nashville leadership presented Herdt with a plaque in the shape of a guitar as a token of appreciation for his visit.
The Navy’s recruiting force totals over 6,100 personnel in more than 1,000 recruiting stations around the
globe. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of
America’s Navy.
NRC consists of a command headquarters, two Navy Recruiting Regions, 20 Navy Recruiting Districts and
six Navy Talent Acquisition Groups that serve more than 1,000 recruiting stations across the country.
