CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait – Nearly 200 U.S. National Guard Soldiers gathered in a late-morning formation as the 935th Aviation Support Battalion and the 248th ASB completed a transfer of authority ceremony here, Aug. 26, 2018.
During the ceremony, the command team from the 248th ASB cased their colors, signifying the completion of their nine-month deployment, followed by the 935th ASB uncasing theirs, signaling the official start of the Task Force Workhorse mission. The battalion’s mission is to provide sustainment-level logistical support, ground maintenance, aircraft maintenance, aircraft refueling, signal support, and Soldier sustainment operations.
The 935th ASB is no stranger to Southwest Asia. The battalion has completed three prior deployments to the Middle East. In addition to the current deployment supporting Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve, the unit deployed to Iraq in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Afghanistan in 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and Kuwait in 2012 in support of Operation Spartan Shield.
The 935th ASB is comprised of Soldiers from four different states – Missouri, Illinois, South Dakota, and Georgia. Prior to the current deployment, these Soldiers spent over 60 days working together during pre-mobilization training at Fort Hood, Texas, in preparation for their mission here.
