FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – Fort Indiantown Gap National Guard Training Center, Pennsylvania National Guard held a ribbon cutting ceremony here Sep. 13 for its Operator Driving Simulator, the newest addition to the installation’s simulations training inventory.

Each simulator features a standard truck cab with interchangeable dashboard layouts to provide users with the experience of operating a variety of different tactical vehicles. Several simulators are housed in a single mobile trailer that can be re-located as needed to meet training needs.

“Fort Indiantown Gap is already home to a wide range of training facilities, both virtual and live action, that ensure all service members that train here are prepared to fight America’s wars and respond to domestic emergencies when called upon,” said Lt. Col. Lane Marshall, Fort Indiantown Gap garrison commander. “Our new operator driving simulator will allow units to maximize the value of the training they receive here.”

The operator driving simulator features a six-level training curriculum, from beginner through advanced tactical driver, and offers additional features such as simulated armor kits, a motion seat, and interchangeable dash sets to further enhance training. The trailer also houses a control center where training technicians can instruct trainees and observe their training on monitors. These monitors display a view of the cab of each simulator, the real-time view of each trainee, and a control console with settings and features instructors can implement to augment training.

Fort Indiantown Gap has been an active training facility since 1933 and is the busiest Army National Guard Training Center in the nation, training more than 130,000 service members from all branches and components, law enforcement, and partners at the international, state, and local levels annually.

Officials in attendance included state Rep. Russ Diamond, Union Township Supervisor Gary Longenecker, and National Guard Bureau’s Deputy Training Support Branch Chief Ron Englehardt.
