Each year, the Department of Defense’s peak moving season is May 1 through Sept. 1. Thankfully, Airmen have the opportunity to turn to the Traffic Management Office for help when it comes to packing, shipping and moving their household goods.
Service members, civilians and their families are highly encouraged to visit the Dyess TMO as soon as their hardcopy Permanent Change of Station orders are received and have registered on move.mil. Move.mil is an internet-based system used to manage DOD household goods moves. Members can submit an application online, file claims, complete customer satisfaction surveys and access any pertinent information related to their move. Airmen who are separating, first-time movers and retirees can simply bring their hardcopy orders to TMO, and they will set up the move.
“Our office is where personnel can come to prepare the shipment and/or storage of their belongings,” said Staff Sgt. Luke Beattie, 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron personal property NCO in charge. “We provide Airmen with information in regards with what to expect before, during and after their move, along with what their entitlements are.”
TMO facilitates government moves and is used by those who are moving to a different base, separating or retiring. For Airmen, civilians and their families relocating here, the household goods office covers moves within 17 counties and 115 zip codes throughout West Central Texas. Also, first-term Airmen can move items from their home-of-record. Members are allotted one home-of-record move their entire Air Force career. For Airmen who wish to visit TMO, they have hours for walk-in assistance.
“We have a walk in customer service office located in our main building and we’re open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” said Staff Sgt. Ashley Oden, 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron passenger travel NCOIC. “We also have after hours stand by personnel on the weekends for any emergency travel issues.”
Averaging over 100 customers a month, Dyess TMO is committed to ensuring members have a successful move. The Team Dyess mission depends on their competency, knowledge and willingness to get members’ goods to its final destination.
“There are no bad questions when it comes to the shipment of your personal property,” said Beattie. “We understand this can be a very busy, stressful process, and we have seen just about every scenario you can imagine. Our goal is to help members remain focused on the mission while we focus on the movement of their household goods being coordinated to meet their needs from pick up to delivery.”
