EASTOVER, S.C. – Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard and Pennsylvania Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team consolidated at McEntire Joint National Guard Base and conducted a search and rescue mission from here, Sept. 16, 2018.
A UH-60 Black Hawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopter and crews positioned at Joint Base Charleston took off and arrived at McEntire Joint National Guard Base in the early afternoon. They were repositioned, along with many other resources in the area, to prepare for possible flooding in South Carolina as a result of Hurricane Florence.
Also in the early afternoon, Pennsylvania National Guard and PA-HART members took off in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and conducted a search and rescue mission. The crew searched parts of northern South Carolina for citizens stranded by flood waters or otherwise impacted by Hurricane Florence.
"We did see some areas where the water has overtaken some small towns, bridges and roadways,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Jason Murtha, UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter pilot with the Pennsylvania National Guard. “Luckily today we didn’t come across anybody in need of rescue.”
Pennsylvania National Guard and PA-HART members stand ready to complete missions as directed by local authorities and assist the populace.
