Coronado’s zip code, 92118, will match the date of the community event on Sept. 21, 2018.
92118 Day is scheduled from 3-8 p.m. on Central Beach and Ocean Boulevard.
92118 Day will be free to the public and will have beach activities, live music, food, drink and special events.
“92118 Day is intended to be an opportunity for Coronado residents to celebrate our community and a variety of local businesses, organizations and nonprofits,” said Steve Johnson, the event coordinator and publisher of The Coronado Times.
Johnson presented his idea to Coronado City Council in May and city funding support was approved with a unanimous 5-0 vote.
Commander, Naval Beach Group 1 (COMNAVBEACHGRU ONE) is supporting the event with amphibious vehicle displays for the public.
“NBC enjoys our special relationship with the City,” said Capt. Timothy J. Slentz, Commanding Officer, Naval Base Coronado. “We love being part of the community, and we are excited to participate in the ‘once in a lifetime’ zip code day celebrations.”
According to Johnson, this event is a big deal because the next occurrence would be in a hundred years on Sep. 21, 2118.
