ighty-one members of the West Virginia National Guard’s 115th Engineer Company based out of Clarksburg, W. Va. recently completed a three-week deployment to the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) in Hohenfels, Germany where they participated in Troop Construction Program (TCP) activities.
The deployment, which took place from Aug. 4th through 25th, saw the 115th partner with members of the Wisconsin and Missouri National Guards to complete multiple tasked projects at the JMRC. The units worked together to conduct relevant Mission Essential Task List (METL) training, sustain readiness, and prepare for future mobilization requirements.
"Our annual training provided a great opportunity to conduct key mission essential tasks, sustain readiness and prepare for future operations. Soldiers trained closely with German nationals, JMRC staff, and several National Guard units building strong, lasting partnerships while also providing a great broadening opportunity experiencing the German culture” stated Capt. Dwight Siemiacsko, the unit’s company commander. “The cross-training conducted with rotational units so far from home better prepared the 115th for the service we provide our nation."
Projects included truss design and fabrication for four structures, terra cotta roofing, reclaiming of more than 45,000 sq/ft of earth to natural state, completion of multiple obstacle course stations, and signage for the entire JMRC obstacle course. Project completions resulted in more than $3.2 million in total benefit to the JMRC.
“Participating in the Troop Construction Program is vital for providing our Soldiers an opportunity to train in a different skill set that they can’t get anywhere in the U.S., by closely matching the deployment processes and mission execution in a distant theater,” Siemiacsko reiterated.
The JMRC trains leaders, staffs, and units up to Brigade Combat Teams(+) and multinational partners, to dominate in the conduct of Unified Land Operations (ULO) anywhere in the world, now and in the future, and provides a myriad of indispensable capabilities to the U.S. Army and our European Allies and partners. The JMRC is situated in the Oberpfalz region of Bavaria and headquartered at USAG Bavaria, Hohenfels Training Area.
