Members of the Republic of Korea Air Force attend a flying course at the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center, Rosecrans Air National Guard Base, St. Joseph, Mo., Sept. 21, 2018. This is the first time the Republic of Korea has attended the course, which makes it the 16th country to attend.
“This is a very special day for us, not every commandant gets to witness one of these ceremonies, I am very honored to be a part of it,” says Col. Bryon B. Newell, commandant of the AATTC.
The last time the center had a new allied partner attend was Denmark in 2011 and before that Israel in 2007.
In a ceremony with students, staff and instructors, Republic of Korea Air Force Maj. Chae dong Kim hangs his countries national flag in the atrium along with the other 15 allied partners that have attended the aircrew flying course at the center.
Also in attendance this week are students from New Zealand and Italy. All three countries brought their C-130 Hercules.
The AATTC functions as a clearinghouse for gathering and disseminating airlift tactics information. Since 1983, the AATTC has hosted attendees from all branches of the Department of Defense as well as government contractors and numerous allied nations are represented. Serving as the cornerstone for airlift tactics the AATTC has maintained a reputation as the mobility air force’s “Tactics Center of Excellence” since its inception.
