FORT PICKETT, Va. (Sept. 25, 2018) -- Warrant Officer 1 Raymond Navarro, 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Fort Bragg, N.C., challenged himself when he agreed to be the team leader for five inexperienced Soldiers participating in the Ammunition Transfer Holding Point Team of the Year competition Sept. 24-28 here. Navarro, who has no subordinates in his current position, said the experience of teaching and mentoring Soldiers is something he has always valued, so he saw it as a means of giving back. In leading the Soldiers, he almost conceded his team was too inexperienced to win, but he wanted to make it an occasion in which the Soldiers learned as much as they could. His teaching techniques were simple: provide guidance to the Soldiers and let them critically think their way through problems. He said not much can be gained in telling Soldiers how to do anything. The winners of the ATHP competition is scheduled to be announced Sept. 28.
