Staff Sgt. Chelsea Duffy, 47th Flying Training Wing self-assessment program manager, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of June 25, 2018, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Charlie Velino, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.

Duffy, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, patrolled areas during Laughlin’s Fiesta of Flight Open House and Air Show to ensure the safety of guests by providing water and medical attention to those in need.

“Our goal was to catch people over-exerting themselves and give them medical care so they wouldn’t have to go to the hospital,” Duffy said. “That was our way of preventing any negative impact on the community and guests.”

Before Air Education and Training Command’s visit to Laughlin for the Unit Effectiveness Inspection, Duffy was able to coordinate essential requirements prior to AETC’s arrival to ensure a seamless inspection.

“I was in charge of taking rosters, Management Internal Control Toolset polls, including any additional information, and making sure it was pushed out to AETC so they had it prior to arrival,” Duffy said. “We set up a workspace for them so they could have a place to work which made everything go smoother.”

She also led the wing inspection team training for 30 members on the unit self-assessment program.

“They have a lot of responsibility on taking input from their commanders and their units, consolidating that information and getting it to us,” Duffy said. “We rely heavily on them, so if they’re not trained, it makes our mission extremely difficult.”

Ensuring guests have an enjoyable visit during Laughlin’s air show and providing information and getting ahead of the game before Laughlin’s UEI earned Duffy the XLer of the week award.
