Recently, Chief Master Sgt. Eric Dugger took the helm from Chief Master Sgt. Kenny Mott and assumed command chief duties for the 7th Bomb Wing.
As the command chief, Dugger is the principle liaison between the wing commander and enlisted force, as well as the primary advisor to the commander on matters concerning the morale, welfare, training, professional development, career progression and the effective utilization of the base enlisted force.
He also serves as the commander’s representative for numerous councils, committees, boards and military and civilian functions. Lastly, he disseminates the commander’s policies to all levels of senior officer and enlisted leadership.
Even though he has only been here for less than a month, Dugger has hit the ground running and is happy to be a part of the 7th BW’s mission.
“I’m so excited to serve alongside Dyess Airmen,” said Dugger. “As I meet and start working with those Airmen, I will say these three things; finish strong, be resilient, and know what it takes to keep moving forward.
“In these next two years, I hope to build strong Airmen who are resilient and always looking for the next way to move forward. I want to ensure great Airmen.”
Just like any other Airmen, Dugger wasn’t always in the Air Force. He joined the military when he was 22-years-old as a food service apprentice.
“When I joined I wanted to stay on the East Coast, but the military brought me straight to Kadena Air Base, Japan,” said Dugger. “Although it took me far from home, it taught me the foundations of the Air Force and has opened my eyes to what the world has to offer.”
Dugger progressed within the ranks until he made the top enlisted rank of Chief Master Sgt. in February 2015. He built his military experience at 13 different Air Force bases with five deployments.
After recently moving from Vance Air Force Base, Okla., Dugger, his wife and their 15-year-old daughter have become accustomed to life at Dyess.
“I love it here at Dyess, the energy is great, the people are wonderful and the mission is phenomenal,” Dugger said. “I love seeing the B-1B Lancer and hearing the roar of its engines knowing that our base helps feed the fight and ensures global reach and global power every day.”
Although Dugger is a senior leader, he wants others to know that he is still a normal person with a life outside of the Air Force.
“I’m an average every day guy with a family and a job that he loves,” Dugger said. “People often think that while working in a position like this, I must be a military guru with no feelings. But that couldn’t be more wrong.
“I fought to get promoted, I worked hard and was always motivated,” said Dugger. “I want Airmen to understand that they can get to where I’m at by working hard and constantly striving to be better.”
While stationed at Dyess AFB, his main priority is making sure Airmen are ready to feed the fight and kill targets.
“The Air Force is people and the people are the Air Force,” said Dugger. “In order for the Air Force to be successful, we need people to lead, to follow, be resilient and we have to have people who value the mission.”
