The 167th Airlift Wing firefighters conducted Federal Aviation Administration Part 139 Live Fire Training at Martinsburg, W.Va., Oct. 13-14.
The West Virginia State Fire Academy provided an aircraft
fire simulator.
The simulator created engine fires, tire fires and interior fires to meet FAA training requirements.
Tech. Sgt. Milo Zahnow, a firefighter at the 167th AW said, “It gets us hand-line and turret, crash truck fire experience.”
Approximately eight new 167th fire department members completed the annual training.
A large metal fire pit simulated a fuel spill that would likely occur due to aircraft crash. Firefighters had to extinguish the simulated fuel fire before moving into the aircraft to rescue simulated victims.
The West Virginia State Fire Academy provides aircraft fire training at airports throughout the state.
