CAMP KINSER, OKINAWA, Japan—U.S. service members, their families, and Okinawa residents attended the 2018 Kinser Festival Oct. 27-28, on Camp Kinser.
The two-day event gave service members and their families a time to relax and enjoy music, games and food.
“Our focus is Marines and their families,” said Gielenn Cantillas, an entertainment coordinator with Marine Corps Community Services. “Being out here in Okinawa, it is important that we provide them with entertainment to help make them feel at home.”
Activities for all ages were available. A rock climbing wall, bouncy house, trampolines and more were a part of Fun Land for children. The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force displayed vehicles for the public to view.
Entertainment included traditional Okinawa dancing, hip hop, and live entertainment with Bush and Joanne Shaw Taylor as the headline performances.
“All of our festivals and concerts are something that brings Marines together,” said Cantillas. “You go with your friends and bond. The work life-work balance is huge; being comrades outside the work place is just as important as in the work place.”
