BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Army National Guard welcomed back Charlie Company, 1-244th Assault Helicopter Battalion, with a pancake breakfast in honor of the outstanding work completed over their nine month deployment throughout the Middle East, November 4, 2018, at the Broken Arrow Armed Forces Reserve Center.
Charlie Company’s mission was to support airlift to U.S. Central Command in Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Turkey. Through enduring hardships they returned home safely without any accidents or injuries to personnel.
“One year ago these Soldiers left Oklahoma not knowing what this deployment would hold,” said Cpt. Tyler Sharpe, commander of Charlie Company 1-244th Assault Helicopter Battalion. “After two months of challenging training at Fort Hood, we departed for the Middle East. Things would change multiple times throughout the deployment, which all these Soldiers can attest to that. But one thing stayed the same no matter what - the mission focus and professionalism of these Oklahoma National Guardsmen.”
A large part of conducting successful missions was the support from family members back home, giving Soldiers a chance to focus on the obstacles faced overseas. From sending care packages to giving emotional support, families can be the backbone to mission success.
“It’s a great feeling to have him back,” said Tim Baugh, Clinton, Oklahoma native and father to Tad Baugh, a crew chief assigned with 1-244th. “We knew he was making a big choice in his life when he decided to go, we’re just glad he came home safe. “
