Story by Tech. Sgt. Daniel Condit

    188th Wing

The 188th Force Support Squadron promoted its new superintendent to the rank of chief master sergeant, during a ceremony held here, Nov. 4, 2018.

Jeremiah J. Brewer, former 189th FSS manpower and personnel superintendent, took charge as superintendent of the 188th FSS during the ceremony.

Col. Donald L. Clark, commander of the 189th Mission Support Group, presided over the ceremony and spoke highly of Brewer’s experience and expertise.

“His love and care for Airmen and ability to lead are probably more impressive than his technical expertise,” said Clark. “He is going to lead the FSS and in turn lead a lot of the wing through the enormous reach and impact FSS has.”

Brewer recapped highlights from his career and spoke about what it meant to be a leader. He spoke about how it was important to put the needs of one’s Airmen above one’s own, helping to develop them into strong leaders. Brewer also said that he couldn’t have made it in his career without the help of the individuals who took the time to see him succeed.

Brewer expressed “I would tell the Airmen, NCOs, senior NCOs, and even the officers ‘remember this, you need one thing to be a leader: followers. You’re not a leader if you don't have followers. Start developing now; get your Airmen's buy-in; put them first.’”

His current assignment at the 188th will see him continuing to lead and develop Airmen at the highest level, advising not only the Airmen in his charge but also the officers appointed over him. Brewer will ensure that the management of personnel and resources is consistent with current practices and procedures in support of the wing’s mission.

“Technical expertise is what sets him apart from everyone else.” said Clark. “He knows personnel; he knows FSS; he is one of those people who just wants to be an expert in his trade.”

Brewer enlisted in the United States Air Force in December 1999 and served in various capacities within security forces, education and training, and personnel. During his career, Brewer also served as professional military education satellite facilitator and Community College of the Air Force school liaison.
