Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training

A Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Keesler instructor and Keizer, Oregon native was recognized by the Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce during the 40th Annual Salute the Troops Gala held at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi, Oct. 16.

Aviation Electronics Technician 2nd Class Andrew S. Tracy was presented the Thomas V. Fredian Community Leadership Award, which is awarded annually to an outstanding military member for sustained superior community involvement.

“A successful community service program focuses on not just the individual, but what a command can do to build and strengthen bonds with its neighbors in the community,” said Tracy. “As a [military] service, we take it upon ourselves to demonstrate positive behaviors, uphold a higher standard of conduct, and act in accordance with the Navy’s core values of honor, courage and commitment.”

This is the second consecutive year that a CNATTU Keesler Sailor has earned this award.

“[This award] is a testament to our strong command volunteer program and helps to reinforce constructive behaviors and cultivate a sense of belonging for our Sailors and Marines,” said Cmdr. Timothy Knapp, CNATTU Keesler’s commanding officer.

CNATTU Keesler, a training unit of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT), trains service members in the electronic calibration of afloat and aviation equipment, meteorological and oceanographic observing and forecasting, and the maintenance and repair of meteorological equipment.

CNATT is a technical training agent for the Naval Aviation Enterprise, an organization designed to advance and sustain naval aviation warfighting capabilities at an affordable cost, and is the largest training center under Naval Education and Training Command (NETC).
