Base officials initiated exercise Flying Tiger 01-19C on Nov. 5, here.
The five-day exercise, scheduled to take place Nov. 5-9, will give base personnel an opportunity to experience contingency operations in a contested and degraded combat environment.
The exercise will also focus on a high operations tempo and the ability to survive and operate in a chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear environment (CBRN) to meet Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CSAF) and the Commander of Air Combat Command’s intent for readiness.
“Each unit had personnel attend CBRN Survival Skills training, Ability to Survive and Operate (ATSO) Rodeos, and unit-specific training on operating in a chemically and contested environment,” said Lt. Col. Michael Francis, 23d Civil Engineer Squadron commander and 23d Wing Emergency Operations Center director. “This exercise provides us all an opportunity to put those skills together and demonstrate what we have learned, identify areas we still need to work on and incorporate those lessons learned back into unit-specific training and future exercises.”
During the exercise, personnel will be evaluated on how well they defend and recover the base from ground opposition forces, as well as mortar and missile attacks, while donning mission oriented protective posture (MOPP) gear proving they can also protect themselves from any CBRN agents.
While the exercise will test the 23d Wing’s ability to survive and operate in support of contingency operations, it will also give Airmen the confidence needed to perform their jobs, should they face a similar real world scenario.
"We conduct exercises like this so Moody is ready to support and execute contingency missions anywhere in the world," said Col. Jennifer Short, 23d Wing commander. "Readiness is achieved by allowing our Airmen to test their capabilities in different environments against different threats and this exercise gives us the opportunity to do that."
